Music Production

Inspired by the leading hip-hop producers of the 90's such as Dr. Dre, Puff Daddy, and Timbaland, I used my background in computers to begin experimenting with digital music during the dawn of the digital recording era. This eventually led to my decision to study music production at Cal Poly Pomona where I earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Music. I also picked up a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration for the heck of it.

During college, I formed a music production team with my classmate Robby Moya. We call ourselves The Beat Bumz, as in "beach bums who make beats", and began producing a wide range of music for independent artists. In 2009, we transitioned from being just producers to also being the performing artists when I wrote a song called "Go-Go Girls". Having no one else around to record it, I recorded myself doing a rough take just to jot down the melodic ideas and to have something to play for Robby to get his additional input. Long story short, we ended up keeping that recording and with a few tweaks, it managed to become our first single as the main performing artist on a song.

The relative success of "Go-Go Girls" gave me confidence and led to me wanting to be in the recording booth more and more rather than just being the one doing the recording. A few months later, we recorded "I'm On A Horse", our parody of the popular Old Spice commercial. Since the original ad was so popular, spoofs were popping up left and right. Our hip-hop-inspired version happened to garner the attention of some major blogs, and the ad agency that created the commercial loved it so much that they sent us some t-shirts for our efforts.
