Downtown Vegas or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love My Town
When I first moved to the suburbs of Las Vegas in 2010, it was a pretty tough transition coming from Southern California. It wasn't until a year later that I discovered that there was a vibrant and resurgent community that existed only 20 minutes away in Downtown Vegas. Like too many residents of the valley, I had no idea that all this awesomeness was right here in my city. When I eventually ventured down there, I immediately felt an amazing energy in the air. I met a ton of great people whom I've become friends with. I found several fantastic businesses to frequent. It wasn't "The Strip" or anything people usually think of when they think of Las Vegas. It was different and it was mind-blowing. At that point I finally knew that my decision to move to Vegas a year earlier was indeed the right move for me.
I started spending all of my time downtown. After becoming entrenched in the community, I was very inspired by all the events, businesses, and people in this new Downtown Vegas. As an artist, I took that inspiration and began putting pen to pad and lyrics to a song began to form. Coincidentally, it just so happened that the Downtown Project had announced an Arts Contest that was open to resident artists of all mediums. I took this as a sign and knew right away that I had to finish my song and submit it in the contest. I called Robby and we began composing the music. It took me a while to finish writing the lyrics because I knew it had to embody all that Downtown Vegas is, and if I'm not thoughtful when doing a niche song like this, the results could go completely awry.
A few weeks later, after recording the vocals, mixing and mastering, we released "Downtown Vegas" to the masses. I feel that I've accomplished the task of capturing the subject matter as best as possible. If you're a fan of Downtown Vegas, I hope you'll agree and will enjoy this song as much as I enjoyed making it. If you're not familiar with Downtown Vegas, I hope this song will convey the reasons to come down and check it out!
